Andrea Mongini Recognized as the 2023 Small Ruminant Practitioner of the Year

One of our own dairy sheep producers, Dr. Andrea Mongini, has been recognized as the 2023 Small Ruminant Practitioner of the Year, by the American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners.  Dr. Mongini is partner in M&M Veterinary Practice in Denair, California, which she operates with her husband, Dr. Craig Meadows; the practice specializes in dairy cattle, dairy goats, and dairy sheep with an emphasis on herd health, nutrition, and production management.   She also owns and operates Ewetopia Dairy, a 300-ewe dairy, and manages the goat dairy owned by Cypress Grove Creamery.

The prestigious 2023 Small Ruminant Practitioner of the Year honor is awarded to a peer-nominated veterinarian who (amongst other things) works with small ruminant species, is involved in community service, and has mentored other veterinarians. We know that Dr Mongini definitely gives her time to this community, as this November’s Symposium is her 6th year presenting critical information to DSANA members. Her past presentations have included topics on Nutritional Management of Production in Dairy Sheep (Kansas City, 2018); Management of AI Reproduction in Dairy Ewes (Kansas City, 2018); Introduction to Udder Conformation in Dairy Ewes (Virtual, Jan 2021); Raising Dairy Replacement Ewe Lambs (Virtual, January 2022); Raising Dairy Ewe Lambs from First Breeding to Freshening (Virtual, November 2022); and this year’s presentation on Breeding for Improved Udder Conformation. Thank you so much, Dr Mongini, for all the valuable information you have shared with your fellow dairy sheep producers!

Production Improvement Program

The DSANA Production Improvement Program (PIP) provides dairy sheep producers with a standardized means for evaluating and selecting replacement animals within flocks, and gives those who purchase and sell replacement ewes and rams a reliable source of information on the estimated genetic impact of those replacements within their flocks.

The Dairy Sheep Association of North America is run entirely by volunteers from across the U.S. and Canada. Get to know more about DSANA!
